Quick as Thieves Marathon

I'm stepping up to help restore sight!

Currently 43 million people around the world are blind but 9 out of 10 don't have to be!

I need your help - a simple procedure costing as little as $25 can help restore sight and change their life and the lives of their families and communities for ever!

On Saturday, 11 May 2024, I will run in the Quick as Thieves event together with Mike Toner, and I am committed to raise enough funds to help restore sight to at least 40 needlessly blind people!

Please support my run - Your donations will ensure more training of local eye doctors, nurses and health workers, creating a sustainable health care system in the communities that need our help the most.

The Fred Hollows Foundation's work has a very clear purpose: to make sure everyone, whether they’re rich or poor, has access to high quality, affordable eye health as we enjoy right here in this country.

Together, you and I can change lives, thank you for your support!

Running with Vision: My Journey to the Quick as Thieves 1/2 Marathon for The Fred Hollows Foundation

Thursday 11th Apr

As I lace up my running shoes and hit the pavement, the excitement within me builds. I am not just training for any race;  Each step I take, every km I conquer, brings with it a reflection of the struggles faced by those without the gift of sight. It's a powerful motivator, pushing me beyond the limits I thought I had. The physical demands of a half marathon are significant, yet they pale in comparison to the challenges faced by those living in darkness every day.The Fred Hollows Foundation, named after the renowned eye surgeon Fred Hollows, has been instrumental in providing cost-effective surgery, treating preventable blindness caused by cataracts, and tackling other eye diseases in over 25 countries. Their work is not just about health; it's about enabling education, employment, and the joy of seeing the world. Participating in this event gives me a chance to contribute to this noble cause, raising awareness and funds to support their ongoing mission. Why Quick as Thieves, you might wonder? The name captures the essence of speed and agility, traits that every runner aspires to embody. Yet, for me, it also symbolises the urgency of the work done by The Fred Hollows Foundation. Time is of the essence in restoring sight; the quicker we act, the more people we can help. This half marathon is not just a test of endurance; it's a race to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.Training for this event has been a journey of personal growth. With each early morning run, with every bead of sweat and moment of fatigue, I am reminded of the greater purpose behind my efforts. It's a powerful feeling, knowing that with every step, I am part of a larger community of runners, volunteers, and supporters all united for a common cause. I invite you to join me in this endeavour, whether by running alongside me, cheering from the sidelines, or contributing to my fundraising efforts for The Fred Hollows Foundation.
